Day 10…running with a skinned knee

Okay, so I’ve been freelance writing for 10 days now. I don’t recall exactly how it started. All I know is that I’ve always wanted to write and I knew I could do it.  I looked up some writing forums with job boards and before I knew what had happened, there I was; or here I am.

Ten days and fifteen published and paid for articles later, I’ve decided to start a blog that gives a play by play of my search, my writings, my celebrations, and my skinned knees.

Currently I’m writing for a company called Need An Article and Textbroker. I’m not fond of textbroker because they don’t have a lot of articles to choose from and they only pay once per month. Need An Article pays to my paypal account every Friday at midnight and although the pay is minimal, my first deposit from them was $111.00. Not too shabby for a newcomer just getting my feet wet.

I did have my first “skinned knee” on Sunday morning when I received a rejection letter from one of the better paying companies. I’m still running though, even though I’m a bit scraped up. My husband kissed my boo-boo by taking me to lunch, and although I pouted for a while, he did remind me that in just 10 days I already have clients requesting me by name. Not too bad.

It is now Monday morning. I am desperately in need of a second cup of coffee, and from where I’m sitting I can just see a puddle of dog pee on my freshly mopped floor. But I have some web content to write for a career website, so that is reason enough to pretend I didn’t notice the puddle. All is well.

  1. How do you apply to Need An Article?

  2. Hi Karen,

Need an article is run by a great group of people and it is a wonderful work environment. They always pay (by Paypal) every Friday around midnight. So, Thursday and Friday evenings are generally “writing like crazy” nights….

Just send them an email and I think they might ask for a sample of your writing. They didn’t ask me for one because they got me off of a job board on a forum site, where I already had a sample posted.

    Cheers!
